Ayia Napa has hundreds of restaurants, and most tourists end up eating at the same overpriced spots on Nissi Avenue because that's where the menus are thrust in their faces. I've lived here my whole life and I can tell you โ the best food in Ayia Napa is never found on the main strip.
Here is my honest, no-nonsense guide to where I actually send tourists when they ask me where to eat. Five restaurants, five completely different experiences โ all worth your time.
Tell me your group size, budget and what you fancy โ I'll point you to the right place in minutes.
๐ฌ WhatsApp Me NowVassos has been on the Ayia Napa harbour since 1962 โ started by a local fisherman and now one of the biggest and best known fish taverns in Cyprus. If you want genuinely fresh, locally caught fish cooked simply and well, this is the place.
You can walk up to the refrigerated display and choose your own fish โ sea bream, sea bass, red mullet, calamari, whatever came in that morning. The harbour setting is beautiful, especially in the evening with the fishing boats bobbing alongside you.
It is on the pricier side compared to other restaurants in Ayia Napa, but the quality justifies it. This is not a tourist trap โ it's where locals go for a proper fish dinner. Reservations are recommended in peak season, especially for a harbour-view table.
Walk down towards the harbour from the traffic lights on Nissi Avenue. You'll find Vassos right in front of the jetty, next to the Yellow Submarine boat. You can't miss it โ it's the big one right on the water.
Stamna is the real deal. Founded in 1982 by Andreas, it operates out of the oldest house in Ayia Napa, and the whole place feels like you've been invited to eat at a Cypriot family's home. Andreas himself is usually either in the kitchen or serving your food โ that's how family-run this place is.
The meze here is exceptional โ over 23 different dishes served one after another, all freshly made and full of flavour. Taramosalata, kleftiko, afelia, moussaka, grilled halloumi, souvlaki, fresh salads โ dish after dish until you have to beg them to stop. This is what Cypriot food is supposed to taste like.
It is a bit of a walk from the main area of Ayia Napa which is exactly why most tourists never find it. That's also why the food is genuinely good and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly rather than rushed. Book ahead โ it fills up every evening.
Ayianapitika is not primarily about the food โ it's about the experience, and what an experience it is. Live Greek music every night, traditional dancing, and the classic Cypriot tradition of smashing plates. If you want a loud, lively, unforgettable evening out with your group, this is the place to come.
The food is traditional Cypriot meze โ kleftiko, ribs, dolmades, moussaka, afelia โ good honest food cooked the old way. It won't blow you away in the same way Stamna will, but it's perfectly enjoyable and the portions are generous. The reason people come back is the atmosphere, which is electric especially on a busy summer night.
Be warned: it is loud. If you want a quiet romantic dinner, this is not the place. But if you want to let your hair down, join in the dancing, smash some plates and create a holiday memory you'll never forget โ Ayianapitika delivers every time.
Meze is the traditional Cypriot way of eating โ dozens of small dishes brought to the table one by one, covering everything from dips and salads to grilled meats, fish and dessert. It's meant to be shared, it takes a couple of hours and it's one of the best culinary experiences you can have in Cyprus. Always order more bread.
GlassHouse is in a league of its own in Ayia Napa. Perched on the 6th floor of the Adams Beach Hotel, it offers panoramic views stretching from Cape Greco all the way to Ayia Napa Marina. On a clear evening, the view alone is worth coming for.
The menu is modern Mediterranean โ beautifully presented dishes using fresh local ingredients combined with international techniques. Think oysters, prime steaks, creative seafood and an impressive wine list. The cocktails are award-winning and crafted by a mixologist who genuinely knows what they're doing.
This is not a casual dinner spot โ it's where you go for a birthday, an anniversary, or when you want a truly special night out. Reservations are essential, particularly in summer. Walk-ins are rarely possible and you do not want to miss out on this one.
Ayia Napa is not exactly known for Mexican food โ but Los Mexicanos is the exception that changes that. It's one of the most fun and festive dining experiences on the island, and a brilliant change of pace from the traditional Cypriot options. If you're celebrating something, this is where to do it.
Los Mexicanos is the best Mexican restaurant in Ayia Napa โ proper tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos done with real flavour and generous portions. None of the watered-down tourist version you find on the main strip. The atmosphere is warm, lively and completely different from anything else in town.
What makes it special is the energy. This is a festive place โ loud in the best way, full of colour, full of life. The staff bring real personality to the experience and the whole place feels like a celebration even on a quiet Tuesday.
And if it's your birthday? Tell them. The staff come out with music, singing and a full birthday moment that lasts about two minutes and puts a huge smile on everyone's face. It's become one of those things people specifically come back for. I've seen tables of strangers join in. It's that kind of place.
I eat here almost every week. That alone should tell you everything.
If someone is standing outside a restaurant trying to drag you in with a laminated menu and a "special deal", walk past. The best restaurants in Ayia Napa do not need to do this. They are full because the food is good โ not because of a salesman at the door.
Peak season in Ayia Napa is absolutely heaving. Stamna, Vassos and GlassHouse all fill up fast. If you have your heart set on a particular restaurant, book the day before at the very least. We can do this for you โ just WhatsApp us.
Cypriots eat late. Restaurants are quiet at 6pm and buzzing at 9pm. If you go at 8:30โ9pm you'll get the best atmosphere, the freshest food and the full experience. Plus the evening temperature in summer is perfect for outdoor dining.
Especially at fish restaurants, always ask what came in that morning. The freshest fish is not always on the menu โ the waiter will tell you if you ask.
At a good local taverna you can eat well for โฌ15โโฌ25 per person including a drink. Meze at Stamna or Ayianapitika will be around โฌ20โโฌ30 per person. Vassos will be โฌ30โโฌ50 depending on what fish you choose. GlassHouse is a premium experience โ budget โฌ60โโฌ100+ per person for the full evening.
Tell me where you want to go and how many people โ I'll check availability and help you book in minutes.
