I've been living here for over 30 years and watched thousands of families come through Ayia Napa. These are the activities that genuinely work well with children — not just the tourist traps.
The single best activity for families in Ayia Napa right now. A brand new 28-metre vessel with 3 decks, a water slide, magicians, face painting for the kids and a proper Cypriot lunch included. You cruise to Cape Greco, the Blue Lagoon and Turtle Bay — the most beautiful stretch of coastline in Cyprus. Kids absolutely love it.
One of the best water parks in Europe and right on your doorstep in Ayia Napa. Over 30 themed rides and slides across ancient Greek mythology zones — something for every age from toddler splash areas to the terrifying Drop to Eternity. A full day out. Book through me and adults save €5 per person vs the gate price, plus you get fast entry through Gate 4.
Perfect for younger children — a short, gentle cruise with a glass panel in the hull so kids can watch the sea life underneath without getting wet or snorkelling. Routes pass the famous sea caves and Cape Greco coastline. The most affordable boat experience in Ayia Napa and genuinely magical for young children seeing fish and sea turtles up close for the first time.
Rent a 4-seat buggy and explore Cape Greco National Park at your own pace. The sea caves are accessible by a short walk and the views are unlike anything you'll see anywhere else in the Med. Kids go absolutely wild for the buggies — it's a proper adventure. Go early morning before the heat kicks in. The bridge of love, natural sea arches and the Blue Lagoon viewpoint are all within easy reach.
If you can only do one paid activity with young kids, make it the Blue Star Family Cruise. It combines the boat trip, the Blue Lagoon, lunch and kids entertainment all in one. For older kids (8+), WaterWorld is the winner — they'll talk about it for years. WhatsApp me and I'll help you plan the right combination for your kids' ages.
Ayia Napa's beaches are perfect for children — calm Mediterranean water, no big waves, sandy bottoms. Here's which beach suits your family best.
My top recommendation for families with young children. Very shallow water for a long distance from shore, calm and safe. Excellent facilities — sunbeds, changing rooms, showers, tavernas. Not too crowded compared to Nissi. A 10-minute drive from the main strip.
The most famous beach in Ayia Napa. Great for older kids and teens who want water sports, inflatables and a lively beach atmosphere. The sandbar at low tide is magical. Gets very busy in July and August — arrive early. A 10-minute walk or short taxi from town.
A smaller, quieter beach a few km from Ayia Napa town. Much less crowded than Nissi, calm shallow water and a relaxed atmosphere. Sea turtles occasionally visit this stretch of coastline — a magical experience if you're lucky. Great for families who want peace and quiet.
Just 15 minutes from Ayia Napa, Fig Tree Bay is consistently rated one of Europe's best beaches. Crystal clear turquoise water, soft sand and calm conditions. Perfect for families — much quieter and more upscale than Ayia Napa. Worth a day trip at minimum. I can arrange a taxi or buggy rental to get there.
30 years of watching families come through Ayia Napa. Here's what actually makes the difference.
The nightlife strip (Nissi Avenue) is loud until 5am in summer. Stay in the quieter eastern side of town near Makronissos or ask me to recommend a family hotel — you'll sleep much better and the beaches are closer.
May, June and September are perfect — warm enough to swim, not overwhelmingly hot, less crowded and cheaper. July and August are peak season — very hot (35°C+), very busy. Fine for older kids but tough with babies and toddlers.
The Blue Star Family Cruise fills up fast in peak season — especially July and August. Book at least 2–3 days ahead. WhatsApp me with your dates and I'll secure your spots immediately.
Cyprus sun is intense even in May and September. Sun cream is available locally but expensive. Bring a good SPF 50 for the kids from home. Hats and rash vests for young children are essential — the midday sun (12–3pm) is strong.
Loggerhead sea turtles nest on the beaches around Cape Greco and Ayia Napa. You can genuinely spot them in the sea, especially early morning. The glass bottom boat trip gives the best chance of seeing them up close — kids go absolutely mad for it.
If you're hiring a car, request a child seat in advance — they run out. Taxi drivers are required to have car seats on request but always confirm when you book. If exploring with young children, a compact buggy/pram is fine — most areas have pavements.
