The most beautiful beach in Cyprus — and one of the best in Europe. Pine-covered cliffs, multi-layered turquoise water and sea turtles swimming past. Here's everything you need to know.
💬 Ask AlexI grew up 10 minutes from Konnos Bay and I still go there regularly. It's the most beautiful beach in Cyprus — I say that without any hesitation. The trick is timing: arrive before 9am in July and August, or go on a weekday. By 10am on a Saturday in peak season, the car park is full and every sunbed is taken. If you're visiting in May, June or September you'll have a much more relaxed experience. The walk down is steep — not ideal with a pram or young toddlers — but for everyone else it's completely manageable. Worth every step.
I've lived in Ayia Napa my whole life. I've been to every beach on this coastline more times than I can count. And if someone asks me which one to go to — genuinely, if I could only show a visitor one beach — it's Konnos Bay every time.
It's tucked inside the Cape Greco National Park, halfway between Ayia Napa and Protaras. The road down winds through pine forest and the first view of the bay — turquoise water framed by two dramatic cliff faces covered in trees — stops people dead. Private yachts anchor here constantly. That tells you everything.
The water is extraordinary. Not just clear — layered. Pale turquoise at the edges, deep cobalt in the middle, with the white sand visible through three or four metres of water. It's not touched up in photos. It actually looks like that.
"If I had to pick one beach to take someone who had never been to Cyprus, it would be Konnos Bay. The scenery is extraordinary — mountains of pine trees, dramatic cliffs, floating sunbeds and the clearest water you've ever seen. It's worth the effort to get there."
— Alex, ChatCyprus · 30-year Ayia Napa localArrive before 9am in July and August to guarantee a sunbed. By 10am the beach is full. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends — Konnos Bay is one of the few beaches where local Cypriots genuinely outnumber tourists on a Saturday. If you go on a weekend, go very early or very late in the afternoon when people start leaving.
Konnos Bay is about 4km east of Ayia Napa and 5km from Protaras along the coastal B3 road. Follow signs for Konnos Bay or Grecian Park Hotel — the hotel sits right above the bay at the top of the cliff.
Rent a buggy from The Drivers Rentals and do the coastal drive from Ayia Napa to Konnos Bay — it's one of the best drives on the island. Stop at the viewpoint above the bay before heading down to the beach. Combine with Cape Greco and the sea caves on the same day.
Konnos Bay sits right in the middle of the most spectacular stretch of coastline in Cyprus. These are the places worth combining it with on the same day.
The dramatic sea caves and natural arches of Cape Greco are a 10-minute drive or a beautiful coastal hike from Konnos Bay. Snorkelling, cliff jumping and one of the most photogenic spots in Cyprus. The walk between the sea caves and Konnos Bay through the national park is genuinely extraordinary. Full guide here.
The famous Blue Lagoon off Protaras is the next bay along from Konnos. You can't easily reach it on foot but all the major boat trips from Ayia Napa stop there. The Shirley Valentine private boat departs from nearby Pernera Harbour if you're in the Protaras area.
Protaras's most famous beach is just 10 minutes' drive away. Very different atmosphere — wider, busier, more facilities. Worth visiting for a morning before heading to Konnos Bay in the afternoon when the crowds thin. Full guide here.
Rent a buggy from The Drivers Rentals, drive the B3 coastal road from Ayia Napa, stop at the sea caves viewpoint, walk down to Konnos Bay for a swim, drive to Fig Tree Bay for lunch, then back through Protaras in the afternoon. That's one of the best days you can have in Cyprus.
